The following are frequently asked questions about Brady’s Sustainability program and policies. As more of our customers, distributors, shareholders and other stakeholders express an interest in doing business in an environmentally friendly way we’ve been asked to provide documentation on our sustainability programs and policies. This list has been generated from actual questions received from our stakeholders, and will be continually updated as we receive additional feedback and questions.

Does Brady have an Environmental Management System in place?
Yes, The majority of our manufacturing facilities are certified to ISO 14001.

Does Brady have a formal statement detailing the environmental policy?

Does Brady have a waste management policy?
We do not have a formal policy regarding waste management however reduction of waste is a key goal of our sustainability program. As seen in the “Sustainable Company” section of Brady’s Sustainability Advantage program summary, our aspirational goal is “Zero Waste to Landfill”.

Does Brady have an energy management strategy?
Brady does not currently have a formal energy management strategy. As part of our sustainability program governance, we have formed “councils” for each main area: Company, Customers and Community. One of the areas the Sustainable Company Council is focused on is energy conservation.

How does Brady integrate “green” products into its overall portfolio of products and services?
The Sustainable Customers Council charter is “responsible products for today, innovative designs for tomorrow”. We believe that the most effective method of developing a more eco-friendly product portfolio is to listen to our customers to understand their desires and requirements and then incorporate environmentally friendly features and functionality into the products up-front. Our design-for-environment program is focused on ensuring product compliance to existing rules and regulations while developing new and improved features and functionality that also deliver better environmental impact. This program is being integrated into our existing New Product Development process to ensure consistency and effectiveness.

Can you give some examples of some of your environmentally friendly product offerings?
1. Paper Signage made with 10% post-consumer waste that is 100% recyclable
2. Plastic Signage made from 70% post-consumer waste
3. Halogen-free labels, ribbons and wiremarkers
4. ReForm(TM) sorbents made from 80% recycled newsprint and other cellulose material
5. Hard side cases for portable printer product line (BMP53 and 71, IDXPERT, and TLS2200) that protect the products during shipping and also act as storage and carrying cases during customer use.
6. Photoluminescent glow-in-the-dark Exit & Egress Signs that reduce building electricity consumption vs. standard LED Exit Signs while not containing any hazardous materials (i.e. Tritium). These signs are ideal for green buildings and can help customers earn points toward several LEED credit categories.
7. Vinyl liners for the following wiremarker sleeve product families were replaced with recyclable paper liners: B342, B7642, B7641, B345
8. Removed the use of all solvents in the production of B427 self-laminating wiremarkers
9. "Universal Cartridge" on BMP 51 and 53 portable printers is made to snap apart and is made of 100% recyclable plastic to enable customer recycling

What are some of the sustainability programs you currently have in place?
1. Actively pursuing waste reduction, reuse and recycling in all facets of our manufacturing operations.
2. Effective August 1, 2011 we relaunched our office recycling program throughout the entire Milwaukee, Wisconsin campus where our corporate headquarters, manufacturing and offices are located.
3. Also in 2011 we eliminated the use of paper cups for water, coffee, tea etc. across our Milwaukee Campus resulting in diverting 4,000 cups/week from going to landfill while saving the company hundreds of $'s every week on cup purchases
4. The print management program implemented across all US facilities has replaced desktop printers with networked printers which has reduced electricity consumption, paper use and toner cartridge waste significantly.
5. Utilizing Esker as a SaaS vendor, Brady’s Customer Service team eliminated fax machines, phone lines, toner and paper. This project also eliminated the need to prepare a fax order for entry, saving time and eliminating order entry mistakes. The in-queue electronic documents are accessed as received and the pdf files are associated with orders in SAP for easy reference.
6. SPC recycles and reuses 100% of it's sorbent trim waste - eliminating waste destined for landfills. The waste generated from forming the rolls and pads is either used in sorbent pillows, socs and booms or is repellitized for reuse in the pad/roll production process.

What enviromental impacts do you currently measure?
We currently track the following metrics globally on a monthly basis: electricity and natural gas usage, hazardous waste, non-hazardous waste, recycling, reuse, water usage and CO2 equivalent emissions.

Does Brady have a Corporate Social Responsibility program?
As a part of our overall Sustainability Program, our Sustainable Communities efforts focus on philanthropy and community engagement.

Does Brady incorporate Sustainability into its company vision?
Yes. Brady’s vision is “To be the market leader in all our businesses to achieve long-term, sustainable shareholder value”. At Brady, sustainable shareholder value goes beyond financial sustainability and includes environmental and social sustainability.

Does Brady publicly disclose its Green House Gas(GHG)emissions or report its results as a member of the Carbon Disclosure Project(CDP)?
No not at this time.

Does Brady incorporate renewable energy as part of its energy portfolio?
Yes. Brady has facilities in Europe that have begun to source portions of their energy needs from renewable energy sources including hydro and wind.

Does Brady publish a Sustainability Report?
No. We currently do not have a formal Sustainability Report. We are planning to publish our first report in 2012.

Are any of Brady’s facilities LEED certified?
Not at this time.

Does Brady participate in any transportation and logistics management programs including routing and consolidation fleet management such as EPA Smartway?
Yes. Brady is a member of the EPA Smartway program.

What 3rd party certifications or reviews by 3rd parties of Brady’s products and services currently exist?
1. Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) - the 2010 Annual Report utilized FSC certified paper.
2. Energy Star - many of Brady’s printer offerings are energy star certified.
3. ROHS - many label material offerings are ROHS certified.
4. WEEE - many label material offerings are WEEE certified.
